Syria is characterized by the existence of an integrated production chain in the textile industries sector, starting from the raw cotton material to the final product of fabrics and clothing of various types, which confirms the need to support this sector by amending legislation and securing energy carriers and all production requirements according to a number of industrialists.

The industrialist Nidal Haj Hassan from the city of Aleppo explained in a statement to SANA the importance of facilitating, accelerating and simplifying the processes of paying and transferring funds and providing facilities for industrialists, by updating legislation and granting them tax exemptions and reducing fees, especially for industrialists who continued their work during the war years.

For his part, the industrialist, Muhammad Tayfour, indicated that the Syrian textile products of all kinds have historically occupied a prominent position in the international arena in terms of price and quality, calling for facilitating the arrival of the requirements of the production process and working on developing the textile production process locally, in a way that provides the needs of the sector and import costs.

In turn, the industrialist, Samer Agyorli, pointed out that the discrepancy in clothing prices is caused by the difference in the quality of the raw material and the craftsmanship of its manufacture, in addition to the high costs of shipping and energy carriers and the high costs of importing raw materials.

Regarding the difficulties that the textile industries sector suffers from, Muhammad Abu al-Huda al-Lahham, head of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, stressed the need to study the desires of merchants and consumers and gain their trust through speedy completion of business, whether by payment, arrest or delivery of orders, and focusing on the quality of products to open new foreign markets.

Abu Al-Huda Al-Lahham added: The Syrian products enjoy a good reputation in foreign markets through their quality and competitive prices, despite the difficulties that increase the cost of the product, indicating that currently freight cars are transported directly to Iraq without exchange at the borders, which saves time, effort and money and supports competitiveness. Syrian products, while Muhammad Darwish (manager of a cargo shipping company) explained that his company is working on shipping to Iraq and that the high transportation costs are reflected in an increase in the prices of these products.

To this, the Vice-President of the Economic Sciences Association, Muhammad Zuhair Al-Taghlibi, called for the formation of a national committee authorized to promote the textile industries, which includes the concerned government agencies and representatives of the production chain links in these industries.

It is noteworthy that during the “Made in Syria” export exhibition specialized in clothing, textiles, and production requirements, Spring Summer (2023), which kicked off last Thursday with the participation of 250 industrialists, export contracts for clothing, agreements and understandings were signed with businessmen from a number of Arab countries, especially Iraq.
