Two people drowned, while eight others were missing, after a cargo ship sank today off Jeju Island, south of South Korea.
Yonhap quoted a South Korean Coast Guard statement as saying that the ship launched a distress call at dawn today while it was sailing in international waters off the coast of the island, with 22 crew members on board.
The statement added: The other ships that were sailing near the site of the ship's sinking were able to rescue 14 crew members.
The South Korean and Japanese coast guards launched a joint search and rescue operation, with five patrol ships and four aircraft deployed from both sides.
