The world is debating AI and ChatGPT, a federal agency is looking for a new fax service provider – for five years and 9,999 fax numbers!

The network mocks.

Bonn – The traffic light government wants to advance digitization – Minister of Transport Volker Wissing (FDP) recently announced: “We have to be among the top ten in Europe”.

But while artificial intelligence and chat GPT, which poses huge challenges for school systems, are being discussed worldwide, the Federal Network Agency, founded in 1998 as the “Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Post”, of all things, is looking for a new one in a public job advertisement: fax service provider!

On the Internet, users outdo each other with malicious comments, as reported by

Expansion of fax capacities "with foreseeable peak loads in reception and/or dispatch"

In the catalog of criteria, the Federal Network Agency also points out that it must be possible to expand the fax capacities “with foreseeable peak loads in reception and/or transmission” if this is required.

In addition, the federal authority wants German-language support and the provision of 9,999 fax numbers.

The tender, which the Federal Network Agency, headquartered in Bonn, published on January 20, 2023 on the federal online platform set up for procurement procedures, was published on Twitter by the network activist and member of the Bundestag Anke Domscheit Berg, among others, and caused laughter there.

Users scoff: "Highly acclaimed openness to technology"

"You shouldn't laugh at the fax.

It combines the speed of electronic transmission with the haptic pressure of still having a full desk,” commented a Twitter user.

“It has to be this openness to technology, which is highly praised in other areas.

Who knows if email will catch on..." scoffs the next.

"Use all available technical possibilities, you said"

"I can not anymore.

That sweetens the end of the day for me", "Use all available technical possibilities, ham you said", and

Most recently, Deutsche Post also provided entertainment in Germany when it came to telecommunications: last December, it announced that the telegram service would be discontinued at the end of the year – after almost 150 years.
