Concerns and worries about the legal form? It seems that Europe is not excited:
a very senior member of the European Union, Oliver Varahli, in an exclusive interview with "Israel Today" rejects the claims of a danger to Israel's democratic character: "I have a lot of confidence in Israeli democracy."
Varhali, number three in the European Union and responsible, among other things, for relations with Israel, said these things in an exclusive interview with Israel Hayom, held today (Thursday) in the European Parliament building.
Varhali expressed support for strengthening ties between Israel and the Union.
"Last year was very significant with the convening of the Council of Associations. I hope that we can adopt common priorities and that there is only one way to rise above what we were able to build. We started working together to implement the Abraham Accords, with partners throughout the region. So there are many things to do to bring the relationship somewhere else, much higher."

Varhali called on the representatives of the new government to visit the Union and its institutions.
"I hope Prime Minister Netanyahu will come here soon."
The new government promotes reforms in the relations between the legal system and the other authorities. What do you think of these reforms?
"We are examining these developments, but it is of course up to Israel which reforms they want to promote."
When you read the new programs, do you think there is a question mark about Israeli democracy?
"I have great confidence in Israeli democracy. If there is a place where democracy is vibrant with checks and balances, it is Israel."

Referring to the Iran issue, Varhali said that "there is a greater and greater understanding of the danger posed by Iran - a danger that has been ignored in recent years, unfortunately. Now everyone understands it. That is why we adopted a package of sanctions against Iran. Europe must act decisively."
