The Venezuelan dictatorship again attacked the prestigious newspaper
El Nacional,
the favorite target of the regime that has imposed strong censorship against the non-aligned press.
This time it was in reaction to an
investigation published by the newspaper on corruption cases
linked to Chavista leader Nicolas Maduro.
The journalist and editor-in-chief of the outlet, José Gregorio Meza, was escorted by a commission from the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (Cicpc) to the Public Ministry
to be questioned
, the newspaper denounced on its website.
Four other journalists, including the editor-in-chief of the outlet, Miguel Henrique Otero, currently in exile in Spain, were also
summoned by the Prosecutor's Office.
“This siege against the journalists of El Nacional is due to a series of investigative papers published during the month of January in which the Morón Hernández brothers are mentioned, among other characters, alleged
front men for Nicolás Ernesto Maduro Guerra
, sanctioned on July 23, 2020 by the United States Department of the Treasury”, the newspaper indicates on its website.
The Chavista leader, Nicolás Maduro EFE
He explained that the brothers Santiago José and Ricardo José Morón Hernández are designated by the Office of Foreign Assets Control as "those responsible for supervising the financial mechanism of
the illicit gold scheme
led by Nicolás Ernesto Maduro Guerra, son of the president."
Santiago Moron Hernández is identified as the main assistant in the operation, while Ricardo is presented as the person in charge of high finance operations and merchandise transfers.
"The information of both is scarce, not to say that it does not exist. And it is that their trace on the web has been erased, along with that of their closest relatives and friends," the publication indicated.
The El Nacional
investigation
highlights that in 2019 a series of false profiles were created with the surnames Morón Hernández to try to whiten the image of the brothers, which were replicated by a series of invented pages hosted on the same hosting with the intention of position these cyber dolls in the first search results on Google, Bing and other platforms.
“By positioning content about false homonyms or cyber straw dolls,
the real information
about the Morón Hernández brothers overlaps, different from the notes related to the sanctions that the United States applied to them.
The more difficult they are to find, the more certain they become ghosts and their operations cannot be investigated, ”he says.
The newspaper El Nacional is the target of the dictatorship that has imposed widespread censorship in Venezuela.
The investigation revealed part of the framework that led the Morón Hernández family, known for leading the company Constructora Cresmo CA, to the extraction and sale of gold to the Central Bank of Venezuela, along with another well-known figure of the regime, Alex Saab, also a front man. of the Chavista leader and currently
detained in the US.
Saab and the Moróns took over the business in 2018 and from the offices they shared in the Galipán building, in Chacao, they
closed operations to export gold
, pay in euros and, on occasions, exchange for food and tanker trucks, among other goods.
In addition to the brothers Morón Hernández and Alex Nain Saab Morán, Mario Enrique Bonilla Vallera and Raúl Eduardo Saavedra Leterni, front men for Yoswal Alexander and Yosser Daniel Gavidia Flores,
