The citizen money starts.
But how much money is entitled to?
A new citizen income calculator can help with the determination.
Frankfurt – Citizens' benefit has replaced unemployment benefit 2, also known as Hartz 4.
On January 1, 2023, the extensive reform of the basic security for jobseekers came into force.
Eligible people receive more money per month from the citizen’s allowance than before from Hartz 4.
A corresponding application can be submitted to the job center.
However, it is not always easy to determine the individual amount, taking into account personal circumstances.

Applicants must have their current place of residence and center of life in Germany, and they must also be able to work, which means that the persons concerned are generally able to work for at least three hours a day, according to an information sheet from the employment agency.
Fixed standard rates apply to the calculation of citizen income:

Single people/single parents | 502 euros per month |
Adult partners in a community of needs | 451 euros per month |
Children 14-17 years | 420 euros per month |
Children 6-13 years | 348 euros per month |
Children under 6 years old | 318 euros per month |

The amount is based on covering the cost of living, rent and care for the people with whom the applicant forms a claimant community.
It is often difficult for laypeople to determine the monthly amount for individuals.

Example: For a childless 33-year-old person with a monthly net earned income of 520 euros, who lives with another unemployed person without children and whose rent and heating costs amount to 530 euros per month, according to the consumer benefit calculator of the Stiftung Warentest, a citizen benefit of 1096 euros charged.
The result is made up as follows:
Control power: 902 euros
Rent + heating costs: 530 euros
Total monthly requirement: 1432 euros
Reckoned income: -336 euros
Total deductions: -336 euros
Citizen's allowance: 1096 euros
Certain conduct, reporting and cooperation obligations also apply to people who receive citizen income.
If, for example, people receiving citizen's benefit do not appear there without an excuse despite being asked to report to the job center or do not report otherwise, there is a risk of financial aid being cut.
