The Oettinger brewery group is selling a total of eight types of beer.

Their reputation was often better than the image of the standard range.

Oettingen – One of the largest German breweries is cutting its range: the Oettinger brewery, known for its low-price beers, is removing several types from its range.

Oettinger is mainly sold in supermarkets and discounters throughout Germany.

The brewery justifies the end of a total of eight specialties as follows: "We are strengthening our core range and separating us from special types of beer that are unfortunately only popular in small circles."

► In other words: quantity instead of quality.

Because, as 24RHEIN reports, it hits Oettinger varieties, which certainly had their fans apart from the classic standard beers.

The "Oettinger Winterbier", for example, which was sold at Rewe and Kaufland, among others, also appealed to beer lovers who otherwise do not reach for cheap beer.

The list: 8 Oettinger beers that are no longer brewed

► These types of beer are being cleaned up at Oettinger:

"Oettinger Weissbier 12 Naturtürtürbl", "Oettinger Urtyp", "Oettinger Bock", "Oettinger Schwarzbier", "Oettinger Winterbier", "Oettinger Wheat-Grapefruit", "Oettinger Wheat & Lemon". Non-Alcoholic", "Oettinger Natur Radler Non-Alcoholic Natural Cloudy".

► A drastic step:

Despite all the criticism of the cheap image of the Oettinger brewery, the group has so far also stood for beer variety.

Thanks to its know-how at several locations, Oettinger was able to brew just about any type of beer - with one exception: Kölsch.

However, this is due to the fact that Oettinger does not own a brewery in Cologne and is therefore not allowed to produce a drink with this name.

► Oettinger in transition:

Although the cheap brewer will certainly be among the beneficiaries of rising prices (consumers switch from expensive branded beers in economically tense times), the signs at Oettinger point to cost optimization.

Most recently, the group sold its brewery in Gotha (Thuringia) to the Munich Paulaner Group, behind which brands such as "Paulaner Weißbier", "Paulaner Spezi", "Hacker-Pschorr", but also "Schmucker" and "Hoepfner" are hidden.

The Corona crisis, skyrocketing energy prices and the decline in beer consumption for years have not left Oettinger untouched.

The Oettinger brewery is based in Oettingen in the Swabian part of Bavaria (about 70 kilometers south of Nuremberg).

There are other Oettinger breweries in Mönchengladbach (former Hannen brewery) and Braunschweig (former Feldschlößchen brewery).

The family business employs more than 1000 people.

The brewery group sells its beer worldwide.

Abroad, the Oettinger beer - in contrast to the German home market - is often considered a real beer specialty.
