Volunteers from the students of intermediate institutes and university colleges in the governorate planted 3,000 saplings at the aforementioned site.
This campaign, which was organized by the branch of the Syrian Students Union in As-Suwayda, in cooperation with the Directorate of Agriculture, is part of a plan to set up afforestation campaigns in the areas affected by the illegal cutting of trees, according to the head of the Voluntary Work and Social Activity Office in the Student Union branch, Marah Azzam, indicating in a statement to SANA reporter that it will be organized Similar campaigns next month in a number of institutes and colleges, in cooperation with the Directorate of Agriculture.
For his part, the head of the Forestry Department in the Directorate of Agriculture, Engineer Anas Abu Fakhr, stated in a similar statement that the workers in the directorate prepared the land on the site for cultivation before planting trees in it, indicating that the campaign comes within the artificial reforestation plan that the directorate is implementing in a number of forest sites, within Within the framework of the national afforestation campaign launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform under the title “For a better climate … we plant trees”.
The students participating in the campaign, Qusai al-Hakim, Sharif Abu Turabi, Yara al-Johari and Marah al-Jarmani, spoke about their desire to participate in the campaign based on their responsibility as youth, to contribute to compensating the damaged trees and restoring the vegetation cover, due to the environmental and aesthetic benefits of planting trees and the necessity of preserving them as a national and humanitarian duty.
