Several EdUHK alumni Lin Zhensheng, Guo Lingli and Lu Hanmin, who had never met on campus before, "recognized each other" in a Legislative Council meeting last year. The publication "Beyond Education" of the Education University of Hong Kong recently invited them to return to their alma mater to share their past campus experiences, and also visited Zhu Guoqiang, who is the "big brother" of the Education University, and Yang Yongjie, who came from an apricot family.

Lin Zhensheng of the Federation of Labor: Teach the counseling skills learned in the university to help deal with labor disputes

Lam Chun-sing, a member of the Legislative Council of the labor sector, recalled that when SARS hit Hong Kong when he graduated from EdUniversity, he joined the Federation of Hong Kong and Kowloon Labor Unions by chance and has been elected as a member of the Legislative Council in 2021.

Although he has never been a teacher, he believes that the counseling skills he has learned from teaching can be of great use in handling labor disputes: "In labor associations, we must also preach, teach, and solve doubts, and teach workers to protect themselves and understand labor laws. and their own rights and interests; design retraining courses for them to improve their skills; solve problems for them when they encounter difficulties such as wage arrears, and fight for them.”

Guo Lingli still returns to her alma mater as a substitute teacher, remember the first lesson: Be a teacher of people, not a teacher of scriptures

Ms. Guo Lingli recalled that the first lesson at the opening ceremony of EdU was "to be a human teacher, not a scripture teacher". If children "can't listen to their ears", teachers are also responsible. Since she became a trainee teacher, she has taken this as an example. Guard yourself.

After becoming a member of the Legislative Council, he still serves as a teacher. When the session is not in session, he returns to the school to teach, or is invited to serve as a guest lecturer in national education courses in different schools.

She said that her eyes have broadened and she can see farther. "Speaking should express three to five key points in a concise and precise manner. It used to be for students, but now it is for the community, the industry and Hong Kong as a whole."

Lu Hanmin went from studying "politics", discussing politics, to participating in politics

When Mr. Lu Hanmin was at EdU in the past, he could be seen at the opening ceremony, tea gathering with patrons, or student union elections.

He also studied the original meaning of the word "politics" in "The Analects of Confucius", and wrote an article with a grade A.

From studying "politics" to discussing politics and participating in politics, he often quoted "The Analects of Confucius" even in his speeches in the Legislative Council.

He encourages the brothers and sisters of teaching masters to be curious, and to get in touch with different people and things by participating in campus and community activities, so as to broaden their horizons and network, which will help inspire students in the future.

Zhu Guoqiang goes back to the "Forest School" every day to chat with teachers and students before rushing to the parliament

Councilor Chu Kwok-keung, who is also the principal of Ta Kwu Ling Ying Public School, is not afraid of the long distance. If possible, he will go back to the remote "Forest School" every day to chat with teachers and students, and then rush to Admiralty to attend the meeting.

After being elected as a member of the Legislative Council, he interviewed a colleague in the education field every week to listen to the pressure and challenges they faced.

For him, education and political discussion are both jobs that build relationships and connect with people. "Education is a job for people, and we must understand people. If we don't understand children, it will be difficult to effectively help them develop and solve problems."

Yang Yongjie was born in an apricot family but devoted himself to politics

Councilor Yang Yongjie, who once taught at the front line, faced controversies related to Chinese history and hoped to promote changes at the policy level, so he resolutely resigned from his teaching position and entered politics.

Born in an aristocratic family, his mother was also a teacher student, and asked him from time to time why he did not "keep his duty" and continue to be a teacher.

Yang Yongjie explained that relying on one person alone to teach Chinese history through the classroom has less influence than participating in politics to promote history education at the level of policy formulation to help young people develop patriotic feelings.
