A dream that collapses for a young British couple from Hertfordshire, north of London.
Rachel Kennedy and Liam McCrognan almost became millionaires in February 2021, but their ticket was not validated by Euromillions.
“
I was heartbroken
, said the couple to the British daily
The Sun
,
I had already reviewed everything in my head (…) I was already imagining the house of our dreams.
The disillusion was immense for these two Englishmen for whom their lives could have changed.
Insufficient funds
The Transnational Lottery could not accept the ticket due to insufficient funds.
Rachel Kennedy, who was 19 at the time, had not topped up her Euromillions account, so her ticket could not be paid.
The couple had subscribed to a subscription which played the same numbers 6, 12, 22, 29, 33, 6 and 11 each week.
A dream that goes up in smoke for a ticket worth no more than £2.50.
Despite having the correct numbers, they were unable to claim the jackpot, as the young woman tells The
Sun
: "
I called the number thinking I had won £182million and they says 'yes, you have the correct numbers but you didn't have the funds in your account to pay for the ticket, so it didn't work'
"
“Winning game”
She had received a notification that her usual numbers were "
winning
", leading her to believe that she had hit the jackpot.
The student from the University of Brighton continues to The
Sun
: "
I went on the app and it said 'winning match' and I thought 'Oh my God, I won' (...) was on top of the world when I thought I had won, but when I found out I hadn't, Liam was actually more upset than me."
