France is in favor of coordinated action within the European Union to free the Europeans detained in Iran and described as "
state hostages
", the spokeswoman for the French Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
“
France is unfortunately not alone in this situation
”, underlined Anne-Claire Legendre during a press point, explaining that the head of French diplomacy Catherine Colonna had addressed the question of coordinated action on Monday during a Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.
This point was raised again on Wednesday in Brussels during a consular cooperation committee.
Obtain an immediate release
The objective is to "
share the different analyzes to work together to find appropriate responses to obtain the immediate release
" of all imprisoned Europeans, explained Anne-Claire Legendre.
Seven French nationals are currently being held in Iranian prisons.
They are among dozens of Westerners detained in Iran.
Their supporters describe them as innocent people used by the Revolutionary Guards as leverage.
Some have not been judged and have not been able to surround themselves with a lawyer.

Iran and major Western powers are trying to resuscitate a 2015 international agreement that aims to ensure the civilian character of Iran's nuclear program.
Tehran is accused, despite its denials, of seeking to acquire atomic weapons.
A rally is scheduled for Saturday in Paris to denounce the conditions of detention of these prisoners.
