Handel, 47, doctor of history, lieutenant colonel in the reserves, served in the Netanyahu-Ganz government and later in the Bennett-Lapid government as communications minister.
In the last Knesset elections, he signed a union agreement with the right-wing faction led by Ayelet Shaked, and received second place on the "Zionist Spirit" list.
About two months before the elections, Shaked and Handel announced that they had decided to dissolve the political partnership and the "Zionist spirit" following differences of opinion, and days later he announced his retirement from political life.
Even before entering politics, Handel touched the worlds of the media - as a publicist in Yediot Aharonot and a presenter on Galach and Channel 11. Before that, he served as the head of the national information system and the chairman of the Institute for Zionist Strategy.
