The knife attack on a German regional train, which left two dead and several injured, had no "terrorist" motive

prosecutor's office in charge of the investigation said on Thursday.

The 33-year-old alleged attacker, a stateless man of Palestinian origin arrested immediately after Wednesday's events, is to be presented Thursday afternoon, at the request of the prosecution, to a judge who will decide what action to take.
A former prisoner
He is suspected of having stabbed several people on a regional express train from Kiel to Hamburg, in northern Germany.
A 16-year-old girl and a 19-year-old boy were killed.
Seven other people were injured, some seriously.
The alleged perpetrator was subdued by witnesses, before being arrested at Brokstedt station.
After being homeless, he was released from prison in mid-January after serving a sentence for assault and battery.
