President Yitzhak Herzog today (Thursday) called on the members of the European Parliament not to stand aside in the face of hatred and anti-Semitism.
"The dark abyss of the Holocaust is the terrible, profound and binding lesson of all of Europe," said the President in a speech on the occasion of International Holocaust Day.
"Today we see movements from the fringes of European and world politics that brilliantly carry the ugly flag of anti-Semitism, which once again threatens to turn a democratic and civilized society into a society that eats its inhabitants. Unfortunately, the picture is worrying, very worrying."
