In Taiwan, the DPP confronts its opposition and the Chinese threat

STORY – Losing momentum after its defeat in the local elections, the ruling party is looking for a new strategy before the presidential election of 2024.

As pressure mounts in the Taiwan Strait and Beijing rumbles, Taiwanese look to the presidential election to be held in January 2024. Timing is tricky for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which faces rising threats from the Chinese Communist Party.

Numerous American studies warn against a military escalation.

In the latest issue of the journal

, analysts Jude Blanchette and Ryan Hass point out that in American political circles, the idea is forming that peace will not last long.

For seventy years, the United States and China have maintained a consensus that would have prevented a tragedy around Taiwan,"

recalls the beginning of the article.

But according to the two experts, “

preserving peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait should be the only metric against which US policy should be judged.
