The town of Bad Tölz is trying to improve the conditions for cyclists - despite the difficult topography.
Now the efforts have been rewarded.
Bad Tölz/Munich
– The coveted title has arrived: Bad Tölz was honored as a “bicycle-friendly municipality in Bavaria” on Thursday and has now been able to hold the title for seven years.
According to a statement by the association “Working Group for Cycle-Friendly Municipalities in Bavaria” (AGFK), the basis was a demanding test procedure based on a uniform list of criteria, which Bad Tölz “successfully underwent”.
Bad Tölz is one of 62 “bicycle-friendly municipalities in Bavaria”
The award was given by the State Ministry for Housing, Construction and Transport.
Around 100 guests from politics, business, administration and associations were invited to a ceremony in the gas meter workshop in Munich, including the mayor of Tölz, Ingo Mehner.
Ten municipalities received the official rating of “bicycle-friendly”.
In addition to Tölz, these were the cities of Bamberg, Coburg, Eichstätt and Weißenhorn, the communities of Eching and Neufahrn near Freising and the districts of Coburg, Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim and Neu-Ulm.
A total of 62 Bavarian municipalities can now boast the title.
The “bicycle-friendly municipality” rating must be renewed after seven years
But Bad Tölz cannot rest on its laurels.
The city can officially call itself a “bicycle-friendly municipality” up to and including 2029. “Member municipalities that have already received awards are also subject to a commitment to progress,” says the AGFK statement.
After seven years, the certificate is due for renewal, for which certain requirements must be met again.
