It is designed to combine sustainability and design into sparkling water enjoyment: Woody, the green water bubbler from the MySoda brand.

The special feature: the housing of this environmentally friendly model consists of over 99 percent renewable wood composite.

The "Product recommendation" editorial team did the endurance test and tested the organic water bubbler in the editorial office.

It turns out - as in previous water bubbler comparisons - it really doesn't always have to be a SodaStream.

Less is more: sustainable packaging & design

The packaging philosophy is as much as necessary and as little as possible.

Even at first glance, the packaging shows that a green product has arrived at the editorial office: The packaging of the Woody is made entirely of recycled wood and is surprisingly light in weight in relation to its size.

The first impression is convincing, because the surroundings of the Woody appear to be of high quality - even after opening the box.

Without frills and above all without plastic, the CO₂ cylinder supplied is packed in a separate cardboard tube, the Woody is protected by a cloth bag and the PET bottle is also packed exclusively in cardboard.

The Woody itself has already received the Red Dot Award, the "Oscar for sustainable design".

Admittedly, its clear forms look very stylish – but many colleagues were initially irritated.

Because the matt surface of the Woody looks a little "dusty and fluffy" in black, which is due to the recycled wood.

(to be seen in the photo gallery).

Practical: The thread with the CO₂ nozzle can be folded forwards at an angle together with the bottle, so that the bottle can be easily removed even when it is full to the brim.

The Woody is ready to go: assembly and operation

+

The PET bottle must be screwed in absolutely straight, otherwise Woody will not fizz.

In the different language instructions for use, German can be found quickly thanks to a color marking on the side.

The individual steps for setting up the device are easily understood and clearly explained with pictures and simple sentences.

When screwing in the gas cylinder, a certain amount of sensitivity is required so that it does not tilt.

It is also a matter of judgment how tightly it must be screwed in.

In the instructions for use, there is a note that you should "not over-tighten".

In the test, it was probably screwed in too little at first.

Screwing the PET water bottle into the bubbler device is also a bit tricky.

Both must fit exactly without tilting in order to be able to be turned clockwise into the correct position.

Sparkling result: this is how the Woody from MySoda fizzes

Because the PET bottle was probably not screwed in exactly the first time, nothing happens when the bubble button is pressed in the test.

It works on the second try, but as with assembly, the Woody needs to be handled with great care!

Pressing it briefly, as the tester is used to from another model, doesn't really work yet.

However, a second press a little harder leads to such a strong CO₂ boost that overpressure forms - and the bottle can only be unscrewed with a great deal of force.

But once you get the hang of it and find the right amount of pressure and time to add CO₂, the Woody works very reliably.

Low carbon footprint in manufacturing, packaging & use

The CO₂ cylinder was used up after 2 weeks of “everyday office life”.

But since it is enough for 40-60 liters, that should be enough for home use.

The CO₂ cylinders are filled with green electricity

Screwing in the CO₂ cylinder requires a bit of finesse

No unnecessary packaging waste

The somewhat “fuzzy” surface of the Woody is a matter of taste

Carbon dioxide cylinders also fit bubblers from other manufacturers, including Sodastream

Some testers found the matt pastel colors a bit ''bland''
