Three people received medical attention during the filming of a reality show "Squid Game," Netflix confirmed, but the company denied they were "serious injuries."

Last year, Netflix announced it was launching "Squid Game: The Challenge," a reality series based on the hit South Korean drama in which contestants compete in a series of children's games in which they die if they lose.

The 10-episode series is currently filming in the UK, but Netflix hasn't released any further details on production.

Thursday's statement, sent to CNN by Netflix along with co-production companies Studio Lambert and The Garden, comes after the British press reported on "war zone" conditions on set after temperatures dropped by below freezing point.

Netflix said: "We care deeply about the health and safety of our cast and crew, and invested in all appropriate safety procedures. Although it was bitterly cold on set, and the participants were prepared for it, any claims of serious injury it is false".

Three people were treated for minor medical problems and there were medical personnel on the recording set at all times.

The original series became Netflix's most popular show of all time upon its premiere in late 2021.

Although the suspenseful drama was created by South Korean director Hwang Dong-hyuk and mainly starred Korean actors who spoke Korean throughout, the creators of the new reality series said they were looking for "English speakers from anywhere in the world."

The platform announced casting for the new series in June in a vague promo featuring appearances by the "Red Light, Green Light" doll and plenty of masked guards.

"Squid Game: The Challenge" will offer the largest cash prize in the history of reality shows, US$ 4.56 million to one of its 456 contestants, the streaming platform announced at the time.

Brandon Riegg, Netflix's vice president of unscripted and documentary series, stated in June: "Fans of the drama series are in for a riveting and unpredictable journey as our 456 real-world contestants navigate the biggest quiz show series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest cash prize ever at the end."

Meanwhile, a second season of the hit show "Squid Game" has been confirmed, though no premiere date has been announced.
