The fact that he called the AfD members of parliament “Nazis” brought SPD MP Dietmar Nietan two calls for order in the Bundestag.
On Thursday, Nietan responded to heckling from the AfD during his speech by stating that “you Nazis cannot bear it when you are criticized”.
As a result, Bundestag Vice-President Wolfgang Kubicki (FDP) intervened as the chair of the session: "Despite the understandability of your inner excitement: the designation 'Nazis' resulted in a call to order."
"I'm proud of him, Mr. President," replied Nietan, which prompted Kubicki to react again: "You will now receive a second call to order, Mr. Nietan, because you are not supposed to comment on my decisions."
Consequences only after the third call to order
According to the rules of procedure, the parliamentary presidency can call individual MPs to order “if they violate the order or the dignity of the Bundestag”.
However, this has no immediate consequences - the right to speak is only withdrawn from the speaker concerned after the third time.
Further measures would be a fine of 1000 euros and an exclusion from the meeting.
