The police custody of the companion of a woman found dead after a fire in a Roma camp in Fresnes (Val-de-Marne) was lifted on Thursday, the investigators "
cannot exclude
" an accidental cause of the tragedy, indicated Friday the floor of Créteil.
This precarious settlement camp, located near a motorway interchange about fifteen kilometers south of Paris, was dismantled on Friday morning, the prefecture announced.
Murder investigation
The fire broke out overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, ravaging around forty barracks.
After more than two and a half hours of intervention, the flames had been brought under control and one hundred and fifty people were evacuated.
A 39-year-old woman was found dead, her body charred.
His companion, 33, had been placed in police custody, an investigation having been opened for murder by spouse, voluntary destruction by fire and modification of the inventory of the scene of a crime to obstruct the manifestation of the truth.
This man was released Thursday at noon.
“
The accidental track cannot be excluded
”, explained the prosecution on Friday, relying in particular on the results of the autopsy and the research of the scientific police which check, for example, “
the presence or not of accelerants
” in fire material.

The prefecture, for its part, announced that it had dismantled this "
illegal camp
" on Friday morning, which "
brought together, at the height of the occupation, up to 200 people
".
She underlined the “
precarious and very dangerous conditions
” of this installation and the risks “
related to illegal electrical connections as well as to the very strong insalubrity
”.
According to the prefecture, the occupants of the camp refused, since August, offers of accommodation and declined new ones after the fire.
