But according to one expert, the predictions are just hot air.

Kassel – Frosty cold, rain and even snowstorms, that's the weather forecast for the past few days for the end of January.

Now everything could turn out very differently: According to Martin Pscherer from the

wetter.com

portal , there is currently no evidence of imminent arctic temperatures in Germany, as

reported by

hna.de.

Indeed, in some medium- and long-term models, there have occasionally been indications of a polar vortex rupture.

This fracture could allow the polar air to reach Europe and cause freezing cold.

Weather in Germany: polar vortices probably responsible for incorrect forecasts

The polar vortex is a huge cold air cushion that forms in the northern hemisphere in late autumn and the winter months.

This results in particularly large temperature fluctuations between the polar region and southern latitudes.

If the polar vortex is particularly pronounced, the weather in this country is determined by westerly to southwesterly winds, which are correspondingly mild.

In the case of an unstable vortex, i.e. a vortex rupture, the probability of winter advances coming towards us from the north or east increases.

According to experts, however, most medium-term forecasts were made with a focus on the classic western weather situation, which transports the many lows to us with the Atlantic air tending to be rather mild.

According to Pscherer, however, this does not mean that winter will not strike again in Germany.

However, there are currently no signs of a polar vortex fracture, which provides us with the icy air currents.

And if the polar vortex should nevertheless break, this does not necessarily have to lead to a cold snap in Germany.

Current weather forecast shows: Mild winter instead of frost and icy temperatures

On the contrary, at the moment it looks more like a slight reduction or a change in the weather.

Although most models continue to forecast a wintry situation, they are a long way from arctic cold.

Nevertheless, it is too early for spring fever.

In the mountains, the wintry situation persists.

Winter is far from over, even if his meteorologist colleague Alban Burster no longer expects winter to return.
