Axel Kicillof named the controversial doctor 'anti Pfizer' in a position in the IOMA social work

2023-01-27T14:15:59.046Z

It is Jorge Rachid, former press secretary of Carlos Menem, who had targeted the laboratory during the negotiations for coronavirus vaccines.

The governor of the province of Buenos Aires,

Axel Kicillof , appointed the Peronist leader

Jorge Rachid

as the new Director of the Higher Institute of Education of the

IOMA

, the Buenos Aires social work

.

He is the health doctor who assured that Pfizer - one of the first laboratories that began to vaccinate against the coronavirus - requested as a guarantee during the negotiations "a new law with unseizable assets that included glaciers."

The designation, which will have an ad-honorem character and will cover a position that was vacant, was published this Friday in the Official Gazette of the Province and with the signature of the governor.

Decree 47/2023 details that the Institute's objective is to guarantee the right of the workers of that entity to "train continuously and systematically to improve the quality of care and advice to affiliated people."

In this sense, it was specified,

Rachid meets the legal precautions, conditions and skills necessary

to perform the proposed function.

Rachid, one of the doctors that makes up the Committee of Experts that advises Kicillof to define policies in the Province,

was at the center of the controversy

in the midst of the evolution of the pandemic in the country, in December 2020, when the Government was in dispute with the US laboratory Pfizer-Biontech over the distribution of vaccines in the country.

The surgeon and sanitary doctor had assured that the pharmaceutical company asked for natural resources from Argentina in exchange for the contract. "They asked for natural assets as a guarantee.

A new law with unseizable assets that included glaciers and fishing permits.

They come here to walk around as if it were a colony

," he questioned at the time. And he stated: "Argentina has a very strong memory of the Frigate Libertad and the Vulture Funds of Paul Singer."

"When I say the glaciers it is not by chance, because two weeks ago fresh water began to trade on Wall Street.

Let's not forget that the owner of Pfizer is the Black Rock fund

, the same one that tried to prevent the restructuring of Argentine debt," he pointed out in radio statements.

Finally, after more than a year of controversy, the Government announced the agreement to buy 20 million vaccines from Pfizer.

The Minister of Health Carla Vizzotti announced it in July 2021. And the main leaders of Together for Change questioned the "delays" in the agreement with the US laboratory.

One of them was

Mario Negri

, head of the interblock in Deputies, who published a message full of irony: "Exorbitant delays from 'friends' laboratories, Biden's donation, pressure from parents of children who need vaccines and from the opposition And one day the government signed with Pfizer! There were no glaciers to hand over, nor were we the toy of the world. Ideology had to be left behind."

The Cordovan deputy thus referred to the statements by Rachid, who is also a member of the Health Commission of the Patria Institute, and is also a doctor for Milagro Sala, the Jujuy social leader who has a firm sentence of 13 years in prison for corruption.

Another who joined the controversy was the former Minister of Health, Adolfo Rubinstein, who spoke of a "farce" and said that the delays were due to "ideological inclinations."
