Then they could also pursue their hobby in Munich.
On the Isar and in the English Garden, winter sports enthusiasts made their tracks in the snow on thin slats.
Official cross-country trails were not yet groomed in the Isar metropolis this winter - although the city lists nine options on its official website: "Cross-country skiing in the city?

Cross-country ski trails in the city area were last groomed three years ago, explains the responsible building department on request.
When can this be expected in winter 2023?
"The cross-country trails in Munich's large green areas (Riemer Park, Ostpark, Westpark, Isaranlagen) are groomed when stable snow conditions are expected for several days," it says a little cryptically.

No cross-country ski trails in the English Garden: “Not groomed for years”
The building department does not name a definitive reference value for snow depth.
Munich's waters, for example, are only released for skaters and stick shooters when the ice has reached a certain thickness.
You can read between the lines: Munich would have to be hit by a massive “snow bomb” for a cross-country ski trail to operate.

The Bavarian Palace Administration also makes no promises for its area of responsibility.
"The administration of the English Garden hasn't traced any cross-country trails through the English Garden for several years," writes a spokeswoman.
However, sports enthusiasts are always free to draw their own cross-country trails.
Winter sports enthusiasts have to switch to the Oberland
There is a clear veto for the Nymphenburg Palace Park;
cross-country skiing is even explicitly forbidden here.
"According to the system regulations of the castle park, leaving the paths and entering the lawns, meadows and plantings is not permitted even in winter," emphasizes the castle administration.
Winter sports enthusiasts who value well-groomed cross-country ski runs will probably only be able to travel to the Oberland.
Attractive addresses can be found in the district of Bad-Tölz-Wolfratshausen, in Bayrischzell and on Lake Tegernsee.
