Czech voters went to the polls today to vote in the second round of the presidential elections, in which former Prime Minister Andrej Babis and former head of NATO's Military Committee Petr Pavel are competing.
Opinion polls indicated that Pavel would win to succeed the current president, Milos Zeman, whose constitutional mandate as president of the country expires on the 8th of next March.
It is noteworthy that Pavel had a narrow lead over Babis by 23,000 votes in the first round that took place two weeks ago, noting that he has the support of the parties and voters of the ruling coalition, while Babis supports both President Zeman and the Moravian Czech Communist Party and a number of other parties.
It is scheduled to continue polling operations until tomorrow evening before the start of vote counting and the announcement of preliminary results.
