Frédéric Beigbeder: "The possibility of love"

CHRONICLE – Clarisse Gorokhoff's fourth novel is the most romantic of the January back-to-school period.


Under a title à la Jean d'Ormesson,

Défaire l'amour,

hides a frail and sensual novel, the idyll of a young girl with a handsome boy who was married in Istanbul ten years ago.

The story is true, moreover the heroine bears the name of the author: Clarisse Gorokhoff, who is the official double of Anna Karina in

Pierrot le fou.

This story inaugurates the “Confessions” collection directed by Thibault de Montaigu under the influence of Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Vincent Bolloré.

In this Turkish remake of

Sentimental Education,

the dubious narrator compares herself to a stick of dynamite blowing up a couple.

Onur is

“the man I held myself back from loving”,

a French-speaking Istanbul resident who looks like a young Alain Delon.

Clarisse Gorokhoff's style was already out of place in her three previous novels:

De la bombe

(2017),

Casse-gueule

(2018) and

Les fillettes

(2019), where she transformed her mother's death into fiction, before her eyes, when she was 6 years old.
