An armed man opened fire today (Friday) at the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran, killing the head of the security system there.
Another person was injured in the attack, at the end of which the shooter was arrested.
The police said that he acted out of personal motives, but in Baku they are preparing to evacuate the embassy and President Ilham Aliyev said that it was a terrorist attack and that he demands that those responsible be punished.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that Iran has recently been leading an "anti-Azerbaijan campaign", and that the incitement contributed to the attack on the embassy today.
Recently, the tension between the neighboring countries has increased, against the background of the opening about a month ago of the Azerbaijani embassy in Israel, for the first time ever.
