Registered doctor Zhang Jiaqi was arrested in the evening of 2019 at the "Sing with You" event at Xingdian Shopping Center in Yuen Long. After trial, he was convicted of illegal assembly and sentenced to prison in 2021.
The Medical Council today (27th) conducted a disciplinary inquiry on the relevant convictions. Zhang Jiaqi pleaded guilty to the charges, but pleaded that there was no violation of professional ethics at the time of the incident, nor did he harm the patient. No violence was involved in the process and no one was injured.
The Medical Council ruled that the doctor involved would be suspended for 6 months and suspended for 36 months.
The case states that Zhang Jiaqi was arrested in 2019 when he participated in the "Sing with You" rally in Xingdian shopping mall in Yuen Long. After trial, he was convicted of illegal assembly and sentenced to 20 months in prison. After the appeal, the sentence was reduced to 14 moon.
This is the first time the Medical Council has conducted an inquiry into an anti-revision case, and the defendant pleaded guilty to the relevant charges.
Zhang Jiaqi pointed out in his intercession that there was no violation of professional ethics at the time of the case, nor did he harm the patient. No violence was involved in the process and no one was injured. He was arrested and did not resist arrest or abuse law enforcement officers. The chance of recidivism is very low.
The Medical Council stated that the court's appeal ruling showed that Zhang Jiaqi was not a core member of the rally or inciting others to participate in the rally, and considering that he is a young doctor who will serve the society in the future, he was sentenced to a 6-month suspension and a 36-month probation.
