Russia condemned the Kyiv authorities' demolition of statues of Russian writers and poets in Ukraine, criticizing at the same time the position of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization "UNESCO" ignoring these actions.
Russia's delegate to UNESCO, Tatyana Dovgalenko, was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying today, in response to a question about the organization's reaction to the demolition of a statue of poet Alexander Pushkin and writer Lev Tolostoy in Odessa: “The organization does not pay attention to that, although we always draw the attention of the General Secretariat to this information.” ".
Dovgalenko indicated that Russia's representatives at the recent meeting at UNESCO drew attention to the fact that Ukraine, despite its demand to protect its heritage, adopts laws aimed at destroying part of this heritage, including those associated with the Soviet past.
