Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Sjärto called on the major powers to start peace talks in Ukraine instead of sending more weapons to the Kyiv regime with the aim of prolonging the conflict.
The Novosti agency quoted Siarto as saying yesterday: “We in Hungary believe that instead of deploying more and more weapons, we must start focusing on a cease-fire and the start of peace talks, and therefore I ask the representatives of the major and powerful countries called the superpowers to sit at the negotiating table and discuss the matter.” How to bring peace to our region instead of prolonging the fighting.”
Siarto said: Hungary and its people are paying a heavy price in this crisis, stressing that Hungarian citizens living in Zakarpattia, Ukraine, who were conscripted into the Ukrainian army are also dying in the fighting.
Sierto explained that Budapest sought to protect the Hungarian-populated areas in this province, because it would certainly become a legitimate military target if Western weapons were delivered there.
Last March, the Hungarian parliament issued a decree banning the supply of weapons to Ukraine through the country's territory.
