They met on the set of Titanic, in 1997. It has already been two decades since the director and the ex-actress sealed their union.

On his own, he is a Hollywood landmark.

While, six weeks after its release,

Avatar 2

has just joined the very select club of films having made more than 2 billion dollars in revenue (1.8 million euros), James Cameron also learned, on January 24 , that his last feature film had been selected in the most prestigious category at the Oscars: that of the best film.

Other news: on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of its release in 1997,

Titanic

is returning to French cinemas on February 8.

This great classic, which won eleven Oscars (including those for best film and best director) remains to this day the biggest success in box office history in France.

It was also the starting point of a beautiful love story.

It was indeed on the set of

Titanic

that James Cameron met Suzy Amis: the latter played in the film Lizzy Calvert, Rose's granddaughter, played by Kate Winslet.

Three years later, the filmmaker married the actress.

It must be said that for the director-star, successively married to four women in the film industry, the border between the intimate and the professional has always been rather blurred.

From actress to environmental activist

Suzy Amis Cameron first worked as a model (signed by the prestigious Ford agency), and as an actress.

After twenty-three films, including

The Usual Suspects

in 1995, she stopped filming in 1998, shortly after

Titanic

.

She co-founded with her sister, in 2006, the Muse School, an alternative school in California described as a "utopia" by the

Los Angeles Times.

The establishment, whose entire electricity would come from solar energy, would generate no waste.

The program would be adapted according to the students, half of whom are scholarship holders.

The private institution is the first in the country to notably offer an entirely vegan menu.

In the same vein, the American has also set up a farm (Cameron Family Farm) and an organic grocery store (Food Forest Organics) located in New Zealand.

Four previous wives

Of the five women James Cameron married, four worked in the film industry.

With the exception of Sharon Williams, with whom he married in 1978, at the age of 24.

The exception is explained: he was still a truck driver, and had just decided to devote himself to the seventh art.

Six years later, their divorce was pronounced and

Terminator

(1984), his first great success, saw the light of day.

It was with the producer of this film, who helped him refine the script, that a year later, James Cameron sealed a second union.

Her name is Gale Anne Hurd and remains a renowned producer to this day.

She notably produced the hit films

Armageddon

(1998) and

Hulk

(2003), and even earned a star on the Hollywood

Walk of Fame

.

A second Oscar-winning wife

1989 was a pivotal year in the romantic life of the director: he divorced Gale Anne Hurd and married another filmmaker, Kathryn Bigelow.

Notable fact: twice, the films of the couple of directors compete.

The two directors get along very well and both even posed alongside Suzy Amis a month earlier.

Indeed, in 1991, both released two of the major films of their careers (

Point Break

for her and

Terminator 2

for him), which competed for box office receipts.

Then, in 2010, when they divorced,

Avatar

and

Minesweepers

face each other for the Oscar for best director.

Winner, Kathryn Bigelow is one of three women (only) to have won the prestigious golden statuette since 1929, the year the ceremony was created.

Her longest romantic relationship

After marrying a producer, then a director, James Cameron turned to an actress: Linda Hamilton, whom he directed in the first two

Terminators

.

The couple gave birth to Josephine, now 29.

According to

Vanity Fair,

the Canadian would have subsequently married Suzy Amis, to silence the rumors (confirmed later) of an affair that began during the filming of

Titanic

between him and the latter.

Suzy Amis and James Cameron have three children: Claire, 21, Quinn, 19, and Elizabeth Rose, 16.

Twenty-three years of living together later, James Cameron has indeed reached his record of longevity in love.
