The grandson of the founder of Toyota will leave his position as CEO of the company

The departure of one of the most influential automotive figures in Japan comes amid criticism of Toyota for lagging behind in the race to produce electric cars.

Toyota announced that its CEO, Akio Toyoda, will step down on April 1.

Toyoda will not completely dissociate himself from the company founded by his grandfather, since he will become chairman of the board of directors of the vehicle manufacturer.
