BRUSSELS - "There is a need to address the

issue of

secondary movements of migrants

but also to guarantee

effective solidarity with countries in difficulty".

This can be read in a passage that the

president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen

sent to European leaders in view of the

summit on immigration

and the economy next week. The president argues that we need to focus on the adoption of the Dublin Roadmap, allowing countries to work better with each other. But also "intensify" support for countries under pressure, using the

voluntary redistribution

mechanism , a harbinger of a "permanent ".

The European Commission will not finance the construction of a

wall between Bulgaria and Turkey

.

"The Commission will not finance walls,"

spokesman Eric Mamer

said during the daily press briefing when asked about it.

"It is up to the Member States to determine what are the best ways to fulfill their border protection obligations. The EU is there to support them in this framework. The Commission finances measures and actions, which contribute to the good protection of its borders, including mobile and fixed infrastructure" but "will not finance the construction of walls".

"The migration dossier cannot be managed on the one hand by the member states and on the other by the European Commission but must be

managed together

and we are happy that the Council has taken the dossier in its hands and will discuss how to bring it on a

common track

: there is always coordination between Member States and the Commission on key dossiers".

This was stated by a Commission spokesman in response to a question posed by a journalist on

Prime Minister Meloni's trip to Libya

and on the one made by Foreign Minister

Antonio Tajani in Turkey

.

"If a European leader decides to travel to a partner country it is a

bilateral choice

and in this context the trips of Meloni and Tajani are a

standard procedure

and if they travel they bring the European position: Italy knows what the European position is if it goes to countries like Egypt and Libya," he added.
