The spokesman of the American State Department, Ned Price, published a statement in which he called on both sides to act to calm the spirits • The Security Council is expected to discuss the escalation in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip

The spokesman for the US State Department, Ned Price, responded this morning (Friday) to the IDF operation in the city of Jenin and the rocket fire from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory and called on both sides to act to calm the spirits.

In a statement published by Price, it was written: "Today in Jenin, nine Palestinians were killed, including armed men, and at least one civilian, and over twenty were injured during an anti-terrorist operation by the Israel Defense Forces against a cell of the Islamic Jihad organization."

"We recognize the very real security challenges facing Israel and the Palestinian Authority and condemn the terrorist organizations that carry out actions against civilians. We mourn the loss of life and the injury of civilians and we are very concerned about the escalation of the cycle of violence in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip," Price wrote.

"We emphasize the urgent need for all parties to act to calm spirits, prevent the loss of more lives and work together to improve the security situation in the West Bank. Israelis and Palestinians equally deserve to live in security," Price added.

The Security Council of the United Nations is expected to hold a discussion on the issue of the security situation in Judea and Samaria.

Council members are expected to receive a briefing from the organization's envoy to the Middle East, Thor Vansland.

The discussion will take place after France, the United Arab Emirates and China called for an urgent discussion on the issue of "Israeli aggression" in the West Bank.

During a separate discussion in the council, Pakistan's ambassador, Munir Akram, said that the Palestinians and the residents of the Kashmir region have the right to exercise their self-determination and that this should be a main goal of the Security Council.
