An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 struck this evening (Saturday night) in northern Iran - and led to the death of at least two people and 122 injuries.
"There are 122 injured so far in the city of Khoi and unfortunately two are dead," the local Ministry of Health spokeswoman told Iranian television.
Official medical officials said that the rescue teams were sent to the area near the border with Turkey and the hospitals went on standby to receive the many victims.
An official later told Iranian TV that snow is falling in some of the areas affected by the earthquake and therefore the temperatures are very low and power outages have been caused.
In recent years, Iran has suffered several devastating earthquakes.
