Nearly thirty people were injured Friday in a massive traffic accident as a result of a heavy snowfall in southern Wisconsin that blocked Interstate 39/90 for hours, authorities said.
Beloit Memorial Hospital received at least 27 people for injuries sustained in the multiple crash, local station WIFR-TV reported.
Authorities did not release the severity of the injuries, he added.

State Patrol agents explained that the snow, ice and the effects of the storm that hits the area caused the accident.
Most of southern Wisconsin remained under a winter weather advisory Friday afternoon and more snow is expected this Saturday.

The accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. in Rock County, between the towns of Janesville and Beloit, the State Patrol explained in a statement posted on its Facebook page.
When officers arrived, they found the interstate blocked in both directions.
The officers diverted traffic onto secondary roads.
The southbound lanes reopened just after 8 p.m., the State Patrol posted on Twitter late Friday.
WIFR-TV broadcast live footage from the scene just before 4pm, showing semi-trucks being reversed as emergency workers assisted the drivers.

Since early Friday, the Beloit area has accumulated 2.2 inches of snow in 24 hours, according to the National Weather Service.
The State Patrol reported another accident that occurred around 1:30 pm, involving several cars.
