An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale jolted the Emilia-Romagna region, off the Adriatic coast in northern Italy today.
The Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said in a statement on its website: that earthquakes were recorded in the two main Italian cities of Rimini and Ravenna, and railway traffic between Bologna and Rimini, as well as between Rimini and Ravenna, was suspended as part of an automatic procedure to verify the effects of earthquakes.
According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center, the epicenter of the earthquake was detected 8 km southeast of the city of Cervia, at a depth of 5 km, without any human casualties.
The seismic activity that has been going on for several days in the region led to taking some precautionary measures, as the authorities closed schools in some towns in the region near the Adriatic Sea.
