After Gouvieux ten days ago, another outbreak of avian influenza was detected in the south of the Oise, in Saint-Leu d'Esserent.

And as in Gouvieux, it is around a body of water, one of the ponds of the intercommunal leisure base, that the corpses of seagulls, carriers of the virus, have been identified.

Seventeen corpses of birds were collected over several days, the samples having revealed the presence of the virus in at least five of the animals found dead.

The municipality of Saint-Leu d'Esserent issued an order this Friday to prohibit access to the banks of the pond concerned, the Garenne pond.

Access to the leisure center remains open even if the public will be made aware of the presence of the virus in the sector.

In this season, swimming activities are interrupted anyway, but the Saint-Leu base still welcomes visitors on weekends and Wednesdays, for other activities.

“No preventive culling of wild birds will take place”

“It is mainly people who come for the pony club and that represents very few people, specifies the director of the base, Dominique Clérice.

We have installed signs alerting visitors.

The only recommendations from the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) are obviously not to touch dead birds and for sailing, boats cannot leave the water body, in order to avoid any risk of spread.

For its part, the prefecture also issued an order this Friday.

"A restricted area called the temporary control area (ZCT) with a 20 km radius around the place of discovery of the infected birds is established, indicates the prefectural document".

It includes all the communes mentioned in the prefectural decree as well as certain communes of two bordering departments: Val-d'Oise and Seine-et-Marne.

A list which does not differ much from that put in place after the discovery of about twenty corpses of seagulls near the pond of Anyvoie.

Inside the perimeter, the bird farms will remain under close surveillance, with sheltering of the animals and the setting up of analyzes carried out by laboratories.

"No measure of preventive slaughter of wild birds will take place", underlines the prefecture of Oise.
