Candidate Petr Pavel won a clear victory in the second and decisive round of the Czech presidential elections that took place yesterday and today.
According to the results issued after counting about 80 percent of the votes, Pavel got more than 56 percent of the vote, compared to his competitor Andrei Babish, who got about 43 percent.
Pavel will succeed the outgoing President Milos Zeman, 78, for the next five years, and he will officially assume his duties on the eighth of next March. He previously held the position of Chief of Staff of the Czech Army and then Chairman of the Military Committee of NATO.
