The controversy before the announcement
After a series of discussions that took place in Mukta on Thursday, a decision was made to announce the suspension of security coordination with Israel.
The understanding in Ramallah was that the announcement of other measures, such as continuing to appeal to international institutions, would be perceived by the Palestinian public as a mockery of Resh and would even worsen the already extensive criticism of the PA leadership.
According to sources in Ramallah, who tell about behind the scenes of the announcement, the chairman of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, preferred not to go to the media himself, and refrained from delivering the announcement in his own voice. The first dispute concerned the wording of the statement.
Two senior members of Fatah's central committee, including Abbas Zaki, wanted the statement to be sharper and clearly announce the "termination of security coordination", while Mahmoud Abbas insisted on a looser wording, according to which "security coordination no longer exists as of now", in a way that allows him Open an escape room for the renewal of coordination in the future.
