A resident of the village of Jadeida Maker will be charged this morning (Sunday) with driving under the influence of drugs and causing an accident in which a 47-year-old woman was killed.
The police began an investigation on January 8 upon receiving a report of a fatal accident on Route 70 at the entrance to Moshav Achihud (km 65). The investigation of the incident, which was conducted by Merhav's investigative unit with the assistance of the Acre station's technological arena, revealed that around 5:00 p.m. the suspect was driving In a semi-trailer truck from south to north, the suspect entered the intersection at a red light and hit a private vehicle that left Moshav Achihud.
As a result of the collision between the two vehicles, the driver of the private vehicle, a resident of Yaad, was killed on the spot.
After the accident, the truck driver fled the scene and later that evening returned the damaged truck to the owner.
Investigative operations at the examining unit, which included scanning security footage, using various technological means alongside an investigation and collecting testimonies from those involved in the incident, revealed that the suspect, a 42-year-old resident of the village of Jadeida Makar, drove a truck that day for over 14 hours.
It also emerged that he drove dangerously while crossing a red-signaled intersection.
It was also found that the suspect was driving under the influence of drugs (Chantal drugs).
Majd al-Khorum police officers arrested the suspect in the accident for questioning at the Asher area's examination unit.
The suspect's detention was extended from time to time, and today, as mentioned, an indictment was filed against him and a request for his detention until the end of the proceedings by the Haifa District Attorney's Office.
