Israeli security guards killed a Palestinian man near a settlement in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said, with the Israeli army claiming he was armed.

The Israeli army reported that a "

civilian security team

" opened fire on a person "

armed with a pistol

" near this settlement located in the northern West Bank.

Kedumim was built on private Palestinian land, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

At least 32 Palestinians (including attackers, fighters and civilians) have been killed since the start of the year, according to an AFP tally based on official sources.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised a “

” response to two attacks carried out on Friday and Saturday by two Palestinians in East Jerusalem, part of the Holy City occupied and annexed by Israel.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expected in Jerusalem and Ramallah on Monday and Tuesday to discuss steps for de-escalation.

The year 2022 had already been the deadliest in the West Bank since the end of the second Intifada (the Palestinian uprising from 2000 to 2005).

According to an AFP count, the conflict last year killed more than 200 Palestinians and cost the lives of at least 26 Israelis.
