The investigation of the accident revealed that a preliminary investigation by the police revealed that the bus traveling on Route 31 near Lahavim was full of passengers, residents of the Bedouin diaspora in the Negev, who had returned from praying at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
