Four people have died as a result of unprecedented flooding caused by torrential rains in New Zealand.
Reuters quoted the local authorities as saying today in a statement: “The North Island in New Zealand was subjected to heavy rains for the third day in a row, which caused landslides, torrents and roadblocks, while the death toll rose to four after confirming the death of a person who was missing.” While the city of Auckland in the North Island, which has been subjected to heavy rainfall since last Friday, is still in a state of emergency.
The country's Meteorological Authority warned of more severe weather that the North Island will witness during the next two days, and that heavy rains may also cause torrents and flood streets with water, as a result of the inability of the sewage network to drain it.
