The areas cultivated with the wheat crop within the lands under the supervision of the work of the Hama Agriculture Directorate amounted to 44,357 hectares, out of the total plan for the current season of 42,466 hectares, with an implementation rate of more than 100 percent.
Dr. Sattam Khalil, assistant director of agriculture, told SANA reporter that 24,445 hectares of wheat were cultivated in irrigated lands, compared to 19,912 hectares in rainfed lands, indicating that the strategic crop cultivation areas were distributed among the various departments of the directorate in Masyaf, Salamiyah, Mahrada, Hamra, Hama and Soran.
He pointed out that the cultivation operations and the counting of the cultivated areas are still continuing to date, so it is expected that the final areas will be larger, indicating that weather factors, the availability of production requirements such as seeds and fertilizers, and the high price of receiving the crop, contributed to the implementation of the plan planned for this season.
As for the areas cultivated with the barley crop, it amounted, according to Khalil, to 84,700 hectares out of the total planned plan for the current season, amounting to 125,852 hectares, distributed over the various regions of the district, especially in the eastern countryside of the governorate.
