The Jerusalem District Court sentenced the terrorist who murdered Uri Ansbacher in the Yael Forest in Jerusalem to life imprisonment and another 20 years in prison.

On February 7, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., Ansbacher's family reported her missing to the police.

According to evidence, she left her workplace upset and went to isolate herself in nature.

19-year-old Uri volunteered as part of the national service at the "Yael Center", a treatment center for at-risk boys and those with special needs near Ein Yael.

The findings of the investigation revealed that Arafat Arfaia, a 29-year-old Palestinian resident of Hebron, left his city in the direction of Beit Jala, armed with a knife and a cap he had purchased two weeks earlier, with the aim of carrying out an attack with many casualties.

He entered the territory of Jerusalem on foot through a 200 meter wide breach in the separation fence near Beit Jala.

Araafia encountered Ansbacher in the forest near Ein Yael next to the Biblical Zoo, attacked her and stabbed her with a knife. Ansbacher resisted and shouted, to no avail. After that Arafaia dragged her to a distance of about 150 meters, stabbed her again, covered her mouth with a scarf and forced her her hands in the belt, and finally raped her. He then took her cell phone, according to the findings of the investigation, he remained there for some time in an attempt to harm more Jews. Finally, he went to the Palestinian Authority territories in a taxi.

On February 8, following intelligence information that reached the Jerusalem Police, the Israeli Defense Forces and the Border Guard, with the help of a police dog, arrested Arfaia near the Al-Bira Mosque on suspicion of murder.

Arfaia has a criminal and security record, during which he was twice in Israeli prison.

For the first time, in 2009, he was arrested for misdemeanor possession of a knife in the area of the Cave of the Patriarchs, was convicted and served three months of actual imprisonment in Ofer prison.

He was convicted once again in 2017 for possession of a knife and illegal stay in Israel, and as a result he served a sentence of about five months in prison.

He and his family are identified with Hamas.

In his investigation, the killer repeated the events [and claimed that he acted alone.

The court issued a temporary gag order on the remaining details of the investigation.

At the beginning of March 2019, the prosecutor's office filed an indictment against Arfaia, on charges of rape and murder. On June 7, 2020, the accused confessed in the Jerusalem District Court to committing the murder and other crimes.

Last December, the Jerusalem District Court convicted the terrorist of the crimes attributed to him and rejected the claims of the terrorist's defense that he is not competent to stand trial
