A horrific disaster in Peru: 25 people were killed and dozens injured when a bus slid into an abyss in the northwest of the country.

The vehicle left the capital Lima last night with at least 60 passengers on board and made its way to the border with Ecuador in the north of the country.

The bus, which belongs to the "Kuryanka Tours" company, deviated from its route near the town of Organos, on a winding and dangerous stretch of road.

The bus slid off a cliff with passengers thrown everywhere and left on the slope.

Several passengers were trapped in the wreckage of the vehicles.

The media in Peru reported that the injured were flown to hospitals in nearby cities after rescue forces had difficulty reaching the scene of the accident.

According to reports, some of the bus passengers were tourists or Haitian migrant workers, but it is not known if other foreigners were among the bus passengers.

The authorities announced that they would investigate the circumstances of the accident and that an inspection conducted showed that the bus's brakes were in working order, it had passed the inspections prescribed by law at the required time and was insured.

In 2021, 29 people were killed in a similar bus accident in the north of the country.
