The government approved today (Sunday) at its weekly meeting a decision to transfer areas of activity and government companies to the responsibility of the Ministry of Heritage, after it was split from the Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage.

The office will carry out all the projects of the national heritage, with a large government investment amounting to hundreds of millions of shekels.

The government's decision approved the transfer of Archeology from the Ministry of Culture and Sports to the responsibility of the Minister of Heritage, in order to strengthen countermeasures and prevent the destruction of antiquities in Judea and Samaria.

The Ministry of Heritage is working to formulate a multi-year government plan for saving, preserving and preventing the destruction of antiquities in Judea and Samaria.

The plan will be presented to the steering committee headed by the Director General of the Ministry of Heritage, Nathaniel Isaac within 60 days and will then be submitted for government approval.

Also, the Antiquities Authority, the Council for the Preservation of Sites and the Israel Ethnic Heritage Area will now operate under the Ministry, with the aim of continuing the momentum of infrastructure development of heritage sites all over the country.

In addition, the ministry will work to establish a division that will deal with the cultivation of Jewish heritage and its inheritance among all levels of the population, while coordinating and cooperating with other government ministries.

The Minister of Heritage, Rabbi Amichai Eliyahu: "I thank the Prime Minister and the fellow ministers for approving the decision."

The government's decision brings to the Ministry of Heritage significant tools for developing, strengthening and bequeathing the national heritage in the State of Israel.

"With God's help, the Ministry of Heritage under my leadership will lead to the connection and accessibility of the national heritage to all parts of the population. I intend to put special emphasis on saving and preventing destruction of the heritage sites in Judea and Samaria - for the sake of future generations. The Archeology Department is now under my responsibility and I will make sure that they come and work at each of the hundreds of Jewish heritage sites Throughout Judea and Samaria."
