The Legal Advisor of the Constitution Committee, Gur Blei, from the Knesset's legal advice, published an opinion on Friday according to which if the legal revolution is approved by the Knesset, it should only be applied from the next Knesset and not immediately.
He published the document ahead of the debates on the reform that continue today (Sunday) in the Constitution Committee.
"The proposed amendment changes the balance of power between the authorities, and gives considerable power to the coalition majority and the executive branch," wrote Blay.
"These things are supposed to be in relation to the change in the composition of the committee for selecting judges and the determination of the succession arrangement that allows the coalition majority to 'vaccinate' legislation from judicial review."
"In view of the above, to the extent that the committee seeks to approve the said arrangements, we will propose to apply them with a forward-looking view starting from the next Knesset and not to apply them immediately in order to strengthen the power of the government and a given coalition," he added.
