Why do so many migrants come to the United States?

The emigration of Venezuelans to the United States, but also to Colombia and many countries in the region, is dizzying: between five and seven million of them have fled the Chavista regime since the beginning of the 2000s. wealthy families left Caracas shortly after the first years of Hugo Chavez's presidency, it is especially since the election of his successor, Nicolas Maduro, in 2013, that Venezuelans leave their country.

According to US Customs and Border Protection, 189,000 were intercepted at the US border by immigration officials in fiscal year 2022 (October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022).

While the flow of migrants from Caracas is continuous, the exodus of Cubans, Haitians and Nicaraguans was the most spectacular last year.
