Linden - "Closed due to lack of employees" - this sign will probably never be in front of the door at "Huber von Linden".

On the contrary: While many employees have migrated from other catering establishments to other professions due to the corona, landlord Rochus Mayer was able to keep his team completely.

Now he invited all 70 – from mini-jobbers to full-time employees – to a company outing.

This is what appreciation looks like.

"I just want to give something back," affirms the restaurateur.

After Corona: Wirt invites all 70 employees to a company outing

Rochus Mayer will never forget March 15, 2020.

It was a Sunday – and local elections.

While the political winners and losers later shook hands, the Bavarian government decided on the lockdown.

"We had to close," recalls the 35-year-old, who took over his parents' business in 2016.

"In such a completely new situation, you don't even know where your head is at first."

The next problem: "The coolers were full, we had prepared for various events," says Mayer.

So instead of pampering their guests with culinary specialties, two employees were now only busy canceling planned weddings and other celebrations.

"That was depressing."

It was also difficult to estimate how long the lockdown would last.

Mayer calculated “from week to week” and often asked himself: “How long will you still be liquid including overdraft facility?” The landlord compares the situation at the time with a car accident: You have insurance “that will step in first.

There was no preparation for the Corona lockdown.”

Mayer and his wife Barbara tried to make the best of the situation.

They started renovating, offering take-away food.

"We tried to employ our permanent employees somehow, to involve everyone," says the 35-year-old.

Because: "It's nice to have some time off, but somehow you want to do something, you want to be busy, but above all you want to be needed." The pressure on the employees was also enormous.

"You could only try to radiate security, although nobody really knew how to proceed."

During the corona pandemic: Employees stand behind their boss - "We like working here"

When the easing finally came, Mayer really went new ways.

In the Café Trödl, in the "Landgasthof Bruckmühle" in the district of Miesbach, which is connected to the Huberhof, he organized a "sit disco" with music and a light show - but without the opportunity to wander around or even to be able to dance.

The event was a great success despite the strict conditions that were constantly monitored.

Many visitors came, “and our people had things to do”.

However, the time was not profitable.

“If we had closed completely, we would probably have been in a better position.

But that wasn't our priority.” The employees, on the other hand, stood behind their boss.

"We like working here," says one.

And now everyone was looking forward to the traditional annual company outing that was launched twelve years ago.

Company outing as a thank you for employees - "It only works together"

"The goal," says Mayer's wife Barbara, "is always a surprise, even if the topic is of course related to the company." The day began with a white sausage breakfast.

In two buses including a music band, we went to the Metro supplier warehouse near Augsburg.

"After a visit, we first invited people to black-light mini-golf and in the evening to an inn again here in the district for a joint dinner," says the landlady.

A special surprise awaited Kathi Eichner, Franzi Ressler, Burgi Huber and Daniela Schönauer: The four employees were honored for ten years of service, Barbara Kreitmair for 15 years and Regina Bichlmaier for 20 years.

With this thank you in the form of a day together outside of the company, the Mayers not only want their team to get to know each other better.

Rochus Mayer also sees it as an investment in the employees and our future.

It only works together.”
